Town Events

MAY

Founders’ Day

A two-day celebration that honors the original founders of Bruce’s Crossroads, as well as a second set of founders, who worked to incorporate the town in 1996. Founders’ Day Friday evening festivities kick off with the local high school band and vocal concert, carnival rides, inflatables, rock wall, and food trucks. Then come back Saturday morning for the community parade along Summerfield Road. The fun continues with live music, rides and attractions, craft and business vendors, exhibits, and more. This family-friendly event is free to attend with plenty to do: race down the slides, climb a rock wall, take in the live music and storytellers, ride along a pony, stop by the face painter and balloon artist, be drawn by a caricaturist, try your hand at a new game in the mobile video game trailer, or touch the sky in the ferris wheel! If that’s not to your liking, shop the local vendor tents and try something new from a variety of food trucks.

MAY, SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER

Movies-in-the-Park

Spend the night under the stars and in front of the big screen. This free, family-friendly event is held at the Summerfield Community Park amphitheater. Bring a picnic basket, blanket, and your friends, family, and neighbors and enjoy a movie in the park. All movies begin at dusk. Light refreshments will be available. Check the Town’s Facebook site for possible rain date rescheduling.

JUNE

Children’s Fishing Derby

An annual event for children ages 6–12 where the Town partners with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. This free event is limited to the first 50 children who register. Children, supervised by their parent, enjoy two hours of fishing at the Summerfield Community Park pond. After fishing, a representative from Stormwater SMART gives a brief talk about the fish in our pond and local ecology. It’s a great way to kick off summer! Registration begins early May.

JUNE, JULY, AUGUST

Music-in-the-Park

A free music in park summer series is held at the Summerfield Community Park amphitheater. These events are family-friendly with a nearby playground. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the music, scenery, and friends. A food truck will be on site for each performance. Check the Town’s Facebook site for possible rain date rescheduling. Typically, one music event will be scheduled for each summer month.

SEPTEMBER

SummerCycle Recycling Event

There’s no better time to clean out the house, garage, attic, and/or shed! Take advantage of the local one-day drop-off location where the Town partners with Guilford County Environmental Services to help residents properly dispose of unwanted materials. Typically, this event will accept tires, large white good appliances, electronics (including computers, televisions, microwaves, electronic games and toys, cell phones, items with electronic chip or plug), and personal documents to be shredded. This event is free to all Guilford County residents.

OCTOBER

Touch-A-Truck

Spend the morning in the driver’s seat…come climb on, hear, and experience over 20 difference vehicles! This annual event puts kids’ imagination in gear when they come out to see, explore, and learn. This free event allows kids of all ages to visit a variety of vehicles in one place; a fire truck, garbage truck, ambulance, tow truck, school bus, tractor trailer, yard loader, mobile grooming van, and much more to name a few.

NOVEMBER

Christmas Tree Lighting Event

Welcome in the holiday season by joining the Town at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting event. Sing along to carols, enjoy light refreshments, and sip on hot chocolate or coffee as we light the Town tree. Then roast marshmallows or make a s’more by the bonfire. Although this is a free event, help us and the Summerfield Merchants Association in collecting food for the local Guilford Backpack Ministry Program. Donations can be dropped off the evening of the event or at any SMA location the weeks leading up to the event.
