Statement Regarding Whitaker - Hall Legal Proceedings

North Carolina law strictly limits what a municipality may say publicly about current or former employees, and the Town cannot respond to characterizations of personnel matters that are protected from disclosure under N.C. Gen. Stat. § 160A-168. The Town’s silence on those matters should not be read as agreement with any public statement made by others about personnel matters. To the extent the Town continues to pursue civil claims and defend itself against civil claims, it does so after careful deliberation and thanks the community for its patience as the process moves forward.
