Summerfield, NC — January 13, 2026
Groundbreaking Set for Bandera Farms Park: A New Regional Destination for Outdoor Recreation
Community members and local leaders today celebrated the official groundbreaking of Bandera Farms Park, a major new regional park in Guilford County featuring equestrian and walking trails and an adventure playground. The ceremony will celebrate the start of construction on this highly anticipated 120-acre outdoor destination, located along Bunch Road near I-73 and Reedy Fork Creek.
Bandera Farms Park brings to life years of planning and collaboration among multiple governments and community partners. Owned and managed by the Town of Summerfield, the park was made possible through a unique multi-jurisdictional effort involving Piedmont Land Conservancy, the Town of Summerfield, Town of Oak Ridge, City of Greensboro, and Guilford County, with all jurisdictions contributing to the acquisition of the land. This project marks the first time all four local governments have partnered on a joint conservation and recreation initiative.
Bandera Farms Park will provide a variety of recreational experiences for residents and visitors across the region. Features will include:
• A one-mile segment of the Piedmont Greenway, a planned 19-mile shared-use trail connecting Greensboro to Winston-Salem.
• Approximately 4.5 miles of natural surface trails designed for equestrians and hikers.
• Adventure playground and picnic areas, restroom facilities, and designated parking.
• Buffers along Reedy Fork Creek, helping protect a vital water source for the region.
• Separate entrances for cars and horse trailers.
Funding for park development comes from the following sources: Guilford County, NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF), Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), Great Trails State Program, Town of Summerfield, Recreational Trails Program, NC Horse Council, Oak Ridge Community Center, and private donors.
The park is slated to open in November 2026, bringing new opportunities for outdoor recreation and community connection to Guilford County.
